Community Meals

Saturdays, 9:30-11 a.m.

Feeding the hungry has been at the heart of our community service since the formation of our Community Meals Program in 1983. Pre-Covid, each Saturday, a team of both member and non-member volunteers has worked to prepare noon meals for approximately 150 people on a six-week rotational basis.

Since the pandemic began in 2020 we have been distributing “grab & go” meals outside the church entrance on Goethe St. from 10-11 AM on Saturdays.  At the height of the pandemic we distributed about 5000 meals a week with our partners including the Chicago Help Initiative.

Our congregational ethos is deeply rooted in such acts of service, which continue to this day including feeding the hungry, homeless, senior citizens, children, and disadvantaged of our neighborhood. Volunteers are needed to greet guests, assemble food item, to receive and distribute bagged meals with our social services partner’s volunteers from the Chicago Help Initiative. Substitutes are needed to fill in on a one-time, short-term or long-term basis. We will update this information when we return to indoor seated meals.

First Saint Paul's is again excited to host a Benefit Concert for Community Meals on Sunday, October 20th at 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.

The Renoir Trio will play Beethoven's Triple Concerto in C Major (op. 56), as well as solo pieces for violin, cello and piano.

The group is led by violinist, Michelle Wynton, William Cernota, cellist for the Chicago Lyric Opera, and David Leehey, pianist for the Symphony of Oak Park & River Forest.

The concert is free, but an offering will be collected to support Firs Saint Paul’s Community Meals program. To donate, go to www.fspauls.org/give

Foot Clinic

On the second Saturday of each month between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, a volunteer team of podiatrists holds a foot clinic at First Saint Paul’s. The homeless in our community are particularly in need of this essential healthcare. Donations of new, white socks and gently used men’s shoes for foot clinic patients are always welcome.

For more information, please contact the church office.
